Let the Season Begin!
The good news is, so am I. MYHockey has worked hard over the offseason to improve your season. We will kick things off on the official day start to the 2007-08 season (according to USA Hockey), Saturday September 1, 2007. In years past nothing appeared on MYHockey until the first ranking of the season, usually the first week of October. This has its drawbacks. This season the teams will be released and the website fully operation on the first of September. Rankings will be 0.00 for all teams in the system until Wednesday October 3, 2007, at which time the inagural rankings for the 2007-08 season will be released.
As a recap, MYHockey is 100% math-based. Everyone starts the ranking season with the same value, zero. Because of this completely objective approach to rankings, enough games must be played before the rankings have any degree of accuracy. I know some teams want their 2006-07 results to carry over. Nope. It is a new season and everyone must earn their spot on the list.
What will releasing the teams on September 1, 2007 accomplish? It will give you a chance to see how each team has faired early in the season. Want to know if the teams that you are playing in that earlybird tournament have already played and how they did if they played, they will be in the system. And that is where you come in. There are currently over 2500 teams in the system. Volunteers are need to enter scores for teams. Instead of 2500 or more volunteers, MYHockey seeks volunteers to take ownership in a division of a league. That usually means about 10 teams. Given an average of two games per week, that is somewhere between 10 and 20 games per week that need to be entered. Finding them can be a challenge, but MYHockey provides tools that help. Almost 50% of MYHockey volunteers help with more than one division because they find it is not that difficult.
So with the start of the season just around the corner (or last weekend for some of us), it is time to kick-off the 2007-08 MYHockey season. You can register to volunteer by going to the Contribute Page. Whether or not volunteering works for you, enjoy the site. Best of luck to each of your families this season.
