Minnesota Peewee & Bantam AA State Champs Crowned

After a two-week break following regionals, Minnesota Peewee and Bantam AA teams took to the ice March 17 to compete for state championships. The Peewee tournament was held in New Ulm at the Civic Center, while the Bantams played at Dakotah Ice Arena in Prior Lake.

Peewee action began at 11 a.m. ET March 17 as the No. 5 Chaska-Chanhassen Stormhawks took on the No. 14 Andover Huskies. The Peewee tournament featured six of the state’s top-10 12U teams along with Nos. 14 and 17.

On the Bantam side, the puck dropped at 1:30 p.m. Eastern, with the third-ranked Edina Hornets facuing off against the No. 9 Minnetonka Skippers. The Bantam bracket also has six of Minnesota’s top-10 14U teams along with Nos. 21 and 22.

Games were played throughout the weekend, with champions being decided on Sunday, March 19. There was a consolation bracket for teams that lost in the first round and a third-place game for semifinal losers.

Championship Sunday Peewee AA Matchups - March 19 at New Ulm Civic Center

Championship Game

#1 Moorhead 2, #7 Osseo Maple Grove 1 – 3 p.m. ET

After a scoreless first period, Cameron Coulter scored late in the second period and Owen Kraft appeared to lock the title up for Moorhead with a goal in the final two minutes of the third. Not so fast. Zachary Martin tallied for OMG 21 seconds later, but the Spuds held on for the 2-1 victory to earn the state championship. Will Arnold and Maddox Gregoire split time in goal again, with Gregoire picking up the win. They combined for 10 saves, while Mark Stienessen stopped 26 Moorhead shots. The Spuds conclude the season 49-2-1. OMG dropped to 30-16-1 with the loss.  

OMG advanced to the championship game with a 5-4 victory over No. 5 Chaska-Chanassen despite two third-period goals by CCHA. Grady Kranz netted the dramatic game-winner with just 46 seconds remaining after a furious CCHA rally during which Connor DeBoer and Brady Kennedy scored a shorthanded and power-play goal less than two minutes apart to tie the game with under four minutes to play in the final frame. Kranz also opened the scoring for OMG as part of a three-goal first period that overcame an early 1-0 deficit. Jonny Bloedow scored twice for CCHA against Mark Stienessen, who stopped 26 shots to earn the win. Moorhead beat No. 4 Minnetonka by the same 5-4 score to earn its spot in the title game in another thriller that needed overtime to determine a winner. Joseph Cullen scored the game-winner with 9:22 left in the extra period after Dean Stevens had tied it on a power-play goal with 2:34 reamining in regulation. That clutch tally completed a hat trick for Stevens. Owen Kraft and John Gramer each netted a pair of goals for the winners, and Maddox Gregoire earned the win in net, splitting tie with Will Arnold. These teams were meeting for the first time this season. 

 

Third-Place Game

#5 Chaska-Chanhassen 3, #4 Minnetonka 2 (OT) - 1 p.m. ET

These two teams were looking to rebound after dropping semifinal heartbreakers. They were meeting for the fifth time this season, with Minnetonka having won three of the previous four matchups. The Skippers had won the most recent game, 7-5, Feb. 17, with CCHA capturing the first three contests by a combined 20-10 margin. This one turned out to be a thriller, with CCHA’s Connor DeBoer winning it with on an unassisted goal with 1:17 left in overtime.  The GWG capped a three-goal rally by CCHA, which had fallen behind, 2-0, with 13:51 left in regulation on goals by Bo Skelton and Cash Hardie. But Brady Kennedy scored with 11:41 left and then struck again to tie it with just 1:08 remaining to set up DeBoer’s heroics. Quinn Beumer made 30 saves to earn the win in goal. CCHA concluded its season 38-14-1, while Minnetonka dropped to 32-12-4.

 

Consolation Finals

#2 Woodbury 5, #14 Andover 2 - 11 a.m. ET

Chase Crowley and Ben Wiggins scored two goals apiece to lead the Predators to a 5-2 consolation-finals win. Brady Thole had pair of assists and Lucas Anderson made 30 saves. Collin Zilmer and Greyson Bruneau scored for the Huskies. Woodbury finished the year 45-13-2, while Andover fell to 39-14-2. These two teams rebounded from opening-day losses to record one-goal victories and advance to the consolation finals. Andover beat No. 10 Hermantown, 3-2, in overtime on Chase Berlin's power-play goal with 3:37 remaining. That score capped a three-goal rally that wiped out a 2-0 third-period deficit. William Blaido and Collin Zilmer also scored for Andover, and Wyatt Riemer made 16 saves to earn the win in goal. Taylee Manion and Easton Kukowski scored for Hermantown. Woodbury beat No. 17 Rogers, 2-1, holding off a late rally by the Royals, who cut the margin to one on Jackson Ringdahl's goal with 5:25 left in the third period. Gavin Godbout and Henry Meier scored for Woodbury, with Hayden Wagner picking up the win in goal by making 14 saves.  These teams have yet to meet this season. 

 

Peewee AA Matchups - Day 2, March 18 at New Ulm Civic Center

#5 Chaska-Chanhassen vs. #7 Osseo-Maple Grove - 1 p.m. ET

These two teams moved forward on the winners' side of the draw in very different fashion as CCHA recorded a dominant 7-0 victory against No. 14 Andover while OMG needed overtime to knock off No. 10 Hermantown. OMG's Owen Verness scored a shorthanded goal with 48 seconds left in the extra period off an assist from Ryan Overskei after the teams battled to a scoreless third period. Finn Starkey also notched a shorty, while Overness scored in the first period for OMG. T.J. Wojtysiak and Brayden Lasky scored for Hermantown. For Chaska-Chanhassen in its victory, seven different players scored, with five of them - Brady Kennedy (1G, 3A), Jake Bloedorn (1G, 2A), Jonny Bloedow (1G, 2A), Jake Campbell (1G, 1A) and Mason Schemenaui (1G, 1A) recording multiple points. Quinn Beumer made 13 saves to earn the shutout. These teams have met five times this season, with CCHA winning four of those contests by scores of 5-2, 5-1, 4-1 and 5-4 in overtime. 

 

#14 Andover vs. #10 Hermantown - 3 p.m. ET

Both teams dropped their openers and need a win to keep their seasons alive. They played a pair of games Dec. 9 and 10, with Hermantown posting 7-0 and 3-1 victories. 

 

#4 Minnetonka vs. #1 Moorhead - 5 p.m. ET

Another pair of top-10 winners meet on Day 2 of the Minnesota State Championhip tournament as Minnetonka skated to a 6-0 victory against No. 17 Rogers and Moorhead had a surpisingly easy time with second-ranked Woodbury in a 5-1 win. The Skippers were led by Ben Sorenson's four assists, with Bo Skelton adding a pair of helpers while Elliott Schultz, Coltron Crook and Cash Hardie contributed a goal and an assist each. Five different players scored for Minnetonka, and Hudson Tucker stopped 23 shots in his shutout win. Moorhead's Joseph Cullen led the way in the Spuds' victory with two goals and an assist, and William Cullen added one of each as the only other multipe-point scorer. Cameron Coulter and John Gramer also scored, while Will Arnold and Maccos Gregoire combined to make 17 saves. Henry Meier had the lone Woodbury goal. 

 

#2 Woodbury vs. #17 Rogers - 7 p.m. ET

It's do or die for these teams after opening-day losses. They have yet to meet this season.  

 

Peewee AA Matchups - Day 1, March 17 at New Ulm Civic Center

#5 Chaska-Chanhassen vs. #14 Andover - 1 p.m. ET

Chaska-Chanhassen completed its unbeaten run to the South Region title with an 8-3 victory over the No. 19 Rosemount Irish. Jonny Bloedow continued his amazing regional tournament by notching five more goals and an assist, with Baron Bogucki adding a goal and two assists and Mason Schemenauer handing out three assists. The Stormhawks earned their trip to the state title game by beating No. 48 Owatonna, 4-3, and No. 44 St. Cloud, 6-4. CCHA brings an overall record of 36-13-1 into the state tournament and has outscored its opponents, 261-171. Andover beat No. 14 Eden Prairie, 6-3, to earn the second bid from the West Region. The Huskies rebounded from an earlier 4-2 loss to the No. 3 Minnetonka Skippers to finish the weekend 4-2-0. Six different players scored for the Huskies in the second-place game: Chase Hendrickson, Dylan Knox, Chase Berlin, Collin Zilmer, Greyson Bruneau and Mason Copple. Zilmer also dished out a pair of helpers, and Brett Romaker made 21 saves to backstop the win. Andover is 30-19-1 and has outscored its opponents, 232-214. These two teams have split four meetings this year. CCHA won by scores of 5-3 Nov. 2 and 7-3 Feb. 8, with Andover winning, 10-6, Nov. 27 and 6-3 Dec. 3.

 

#7 Osseo-Maple Grove vs. #10 Hermantown - 1 p.m. ET

Mark Stienessen stopped all 24 shots he faced to lead OMG to the East Region title with a 3-0 victory against No. 2 Woodbury. Kobe Roeder scored a pair of goals for the victors, with Braeden Euell adding the other tally. Woodbury cruised to the finals with an 11-1 victory against the No. 37 Centennial Cougars and a 7-0 shutout against the No. 6 Edina Hornets. Hermantown overcame an earlier 2-1 upset loss to the No. 45 Alexandria Cardinals by ending their Cinderella run in the North Region second-place game. Arlington's amazing tournament came to an abrupt halt in the 7-1 loss as Hermantown ended the weekend 4-1-0. Kolby Hedley and Isaiah Sawyer tallied two goals apiece and Taylee Manion handed out four assists for Hermantown, while Carter Nash made 11 saves to earn the win in net. The Hawks bring a 38-15-6 record to the state tournament and have outscored their opponents, 224-129. OMG is 28-15-5 and holds a 175-113 scoring advantage over its opponents. These teams met on Dec. 2, with Hermantown skating to a 1-0 victory.

 

#4 Minnetonka vs. #17 Rogers - 3 p.m. ET

Minnetonka faced off against the 14th-ranked hosts from Eden Prairie for the West Region championship. The Skippers streaked to a 2-0 first-period lead and extended the margin to 4-1 before William Jesse Tucker scored for the Eagles with 32 seconds left in the 4-1 Minnetonka win. Dean Stevens, Bo Skelton, Colton Crook and Eliott Schultz scored for Skippers, and Hudson Tucker made 19 saves. Minnetonka earned its trip to the title game by beating No. 35 Spring Lake Park, 8-0, and No. 4 Mahtomedi, 6-1. Rogers rebounded from its earlier loss against No. 19 Rosemount to capture the second South Region state-championship berth with a 7-4 victory in the second-place game over the Irish. Six different players scored for the Royals, led by Jake Burmis' two goals. Braeden Branton and Connor Hood each added a goal and an assist, while Gavin Wanka made 28 saves to earn the win in goal. Rogers enters the state playoffs at 28-21-4 and having outscored its foes, 242-155. Minnetonka has outscored its opponents, 251-135, in posting a 251-135 record. These teams have yet to meet this season.

 

#1 Moorhead vs. #2 Woodbury - 4 p.m. ET

Minnesota’s top-two teams meet in the marquee opening-round matchup of the Minnesota Peewee AA Championship tournament. Moorhead brings a remarkable 46-2-1 record into the game, while Woodbury is 43-12-2. Three of Woodbury’s 12 losses have come against the spuds. Moorhead knocked off the predators by scores of 5-1, 5-2 and 4-3 earlier this season. The Spuds have outscored their opponents, 345-93, recording 10 shutouts in the process. Woodbury holds a 341-150 scoring advantage over its opponents. Moorhead steamrolled to a 10-0 victory over No. 45 Alexandria in the North Region title game, getting three goals from Cameron Coulter and two apiece from Easton Doxark and Joseph Cullen while Drew Kortan dished out four assists as the Spuds piled up 64 shots on goal. Moorhead overcame a 3-1 deficit with four second-period goals against No. 18 Duluth East in the semifinals. Woodbury won a battle of two top-10 Minnesota teams in the East Region second-place game to advance to the state tournament. The Predators beat the No. 6 Edina Hornets top thanks to Chase Crowley's overtime power-play goal with 6:16 left in the extra period. Will Mikan sent the game to extra time on a goal that was assisted by George Mark with 1:27 left in the third period. Crowley finished with two goals, while Mikan recorded a hat trick and dished out an assist in a heroic effort for the Hornets. Lucas Anderson made 31 saves to earn the win in net.

Championship Sunday Bantam AA Matchups - March 19 at Dakotah Ice Arena in Prior Lake

Championship Game

#3 Edina 3, #2 Moorhead 2 - 4 p.m. ET (OT)

The Hornets rallied from a 2-1 deficit after the second period with third-period and overtime goals to capture the state championship. Tucker Johnson tied it with 3:59 left in regulation and Freddie Schneider won it with 57 seconds left in the first extra frame, with Johnson and Brady Peterson picking up the assists. Casey Vandertop scored the other Edina goal, and Chase Bjorgard made 29 saves. Wyatt Cullen scored twice for Moorhead in the second period.

Edina beat upset-minded No. 21. Grand Rapids, 3-1, in the semifinals, while tournament-favorite Moorhead rolled past No. 6 Rogers, 6-2. The No. 3 Hornets scored three unanswered goals overlapping the second and third periods after falling behind, 1-0, on Ari Lamppa's first-period goal. Nick Johnson, Brady Peterson and Freddie Schneider scored for Edina, while Wyatt Spindle stopped 12 Grand Rapids shots to pick up the win in net. Brandon Mickelson led the charge for the Spuds against Rogers, scoring twice with four other players notching single tallies and Zakary Devig dishing out a pair of helpers. Hudson Ferrie made 17 saves in goal to earn the win. These teams met twice previously; Edina won, 4-2, Dec. 3, and Moorhead skated to a 4-3 victory Jan. 22.  The Hornets concluded the season 43-5-4. Moorhead fell to 51-7-0.

 

Third-Place Game

#6 Rogers, #21 Grand Rapids 1 - 3 p.m. ET

Grand Rapids was looking for its second upset win of the tourney and a third-place finish against the Royals as these teams met for the first time this season. Brock Cheslock opened the scoring for Rogers after a scoreless first period, but Jameson Duell answered for Grand Rapids with 10:34 left in the middle frame. Blake Sinclair netted what turned out to be the game winner about four minutes later, and Cheslock iced it with another goal in the final seconds of the game. Lucas Ingebrigtson stopped seven shots to earn the victory as the Royals piled up a 28-8 shots advantage. Carter Casey had 25 saves for Grand Rapids. Avenir Belous and Hudson Kottke scored third-period goals for the Royals after they fell behind, 6-2, vs. Moorhead in the semfinals. Ari Lamppa was the lone goal-scorer for Grand Rapids in its semifinal loss to Edina. Rogers improved to 42-10-1 with the win and dropped Grand Rapids to 32-23-1.

 

Consolation Finals

#9 Minnetonka 4, #22 Stillwater 0 - 11:30 a.m. ET

The Skippers and Ponies looked to cap off their seasons on a high note after earning hard-fought victories to extend their seasons on Day 2. Minnetonka scored four times in the first two periods and cruised to the consolation-round title with a 4-0 victory. Four different Skippers scored: Rennick Hendrickson, Maxson Thompson, Connor Jewett and Jordan Johnson. Chase Jerdee recorded the shutout with 17 saves. The Skippers beat the Ponies, 5-2, on Oct. 30 in their only previous meeting. Minnetonka beat No. 4 Osseo-Maple Grove, 2-0, while Stillwater recorded a 4-3 overtime victory against No. 10 White Bear Lake to advance to the consolation finals. Tyler Lock stopped all 20 OMG shots he faced in earning the shutout win. After a scoreless first period, Cooper Rannow and Quinton Restrepo scored to lift the Skippers to the win. Luke Carrithers made 19 saves for the Ponies. Wyatt Wells scored in the third period to tie it and with 2:40 left in overtime to win it for Stillwater after WBL held a 3-2 lead entering the final frame. Luca Frascone and Jonas Kohn netted the other two Stillwater goals, and Gavin Bajda made 21 saves. Kylan Roed, Ryland DeMars and Theodore St. Martin tallied for White Bear Lake. Minnetonka ended its season 30-11-4, while Stillwater dropped to 33-17-4.

 

Bantam AA Matchups - Day 2, March 18 at Dakotah Ice Arena in Prior Lake

#3 Edina vs. #21 Grand Rapids - 5:30 p.m. ET

Edina advanced on the winners' side of the draw with a 3-2 victory over No. 9 Minnetonka, scoring one goal in each period. Meanwhile, Grand Rapids recorded the biggest upset of the day by knocking off No. 4 Osseo-Maple Grove, 2-1. Edina advanced thanks to Tucker Johnson's game-winning goal with just 40 seconds remaining in the third period. Jordan Johnson had tied the game for the Skippers with 3:16 left to set the state for the dramatic ending. Edina's Caleb Pittsley and Minnetonka's Liam Schultz traded second-period goals after Pittsley had scored in the opening frame. Chase Bjorgard stopped 13 shots to earn the win in goal. Jens Aunan potted what turned out to be the GWG for Grand Rapids with 7:55 remaining in the third and the team withstood a late goal by Cale Braid to earn the victory. Will Miskovich had the other Grand Rapids goal, and Carter Casey was the star of the game with 41 saves in a spectacular winning effort. These teams have yet to meet this season. 

 

#9 Minnetonka vs. #4 Osseo-Maple Grove - 5 p.m. ET

A pair of top-10 clubs meet in a win-or-go-home matchup after opening-day losses. OMG has won all five of the meetings between these two teams this season by a combined score of 21-8 with one of the games needing overtime to determine the winner. 

 

#2 Moorhead vs. #6 Rogers - 7:30 p.m. ET

These top-six rivals won their opening games and meet on Day 2 looking to move forward on the winners' side. Moorhead held off No. 10 White Bear Lake, 3-2, in the Spuds' first game, while Rogers shut out No. 22 Stillwater, 4-0. White Bear Lake jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first period on Camden Autrey's goal and closed the scoring when Autrey scored again to cut the margin to 3-2 with 3:49 left in the final frame. In between, three different Spuds scored in an explosive second period, with Zac Zimmerman netting the eventual game-winner with 5:14 left in the third. Evan Wanner, Tyden Bergeson and Wyatt Cullen also scored for Moorhead, while Hudson Ferrie made 14 saves to record the win in net. Avenir Belous, Jayden Kurtz, Brock Cheslock and Matthew Hauser scored single goals for Rogers in the Royals' victory. Kurtz also handed out a pair of helpers as did Tyson Miller. Tyler Bacon stopped all 16 shots he faced. Moorhead won two of the three games between these teams this season, with Rogers earning a 5-4 shootout win Dec. 30. 

 

#10 White Bear Lake vs. #22 Stillwater - 7 p.m. ET

One team will keep its season alive and the other will pack up for the season and head home as these two clubs get together for the fifth time this year. The first two meetings resulted in ties, and they split the final two contests, with Stillwater winning, 3-2, Feb. 22 and WBL recording a 5-3 win Feb. 25. 

 

Bantam AA Matchups - Day 1, March 17 at Dakotah Ice Arena in Prior Lake

#3 Edina vs. #9 Minnetonka - 1:30 p.m. ET

After a scoreless first period, the Hornets blitzed the Ponies with six goals over the final two frames to capture the South Region championship in resounding fashion, 6-0. Caleb Pittsley and Bode McConnell each netted two goals, with Pittsley also dishing out an assist. Freddie Schneider and Casey Vandertop each contributed a goal and an assist, while Sam Peckam handed out two helpers and Chase Bjorgard stopped all 22 shots fired his way. Edina raced past No. 54 Champlin Park, 7-0, to open the tournament before beating No. 19 Rosemount, 6-0, in the semifinals. The Hornets enter the state championship with a record of 40-5-4 and having outscored their opponents, 255-78, while recording 15 shutouts. Minnetonka fell to No. 7 Rogers, 4-0, in the West Region championship game then rebounded to earn a state berth with a 4-3 victory over the 20th-ranked Wayzata in the second-place contest. After the disappointing loss in the championship game, the Skippers found themselves down 2-1 after the first period of vs. Wayzata. Then they trailed, 3-2, after two, but somehow Minnetonka had enough in the tank to tie the game with 8:11 left in regulation on Cooper Rannow's goal and then to win it in overtime on Liam Schultz's unassisted tally with 8:40 showing on the clock. Rannow had a pair of goals for the Skippers, while Connor Jewett had the team's other tally, Tyler Loch earned the win in goal. Minnetonka is 28-15-4 on the season and has outscored its opponents, 188-131. These teams have met three times this season, with Edina winning all three matchups by scores of 4-0, 3-2 and 2-0.

 

#4 Osseo-Maple Grove vs. #21 Grand Rapids - 3:30 p.m. ET

Two of the state's top-10 14U teams faced off for the East Region championship, but OMG skated away with a decisive victory and the region title. Ryder Skanson stopped all 18 shots he faced to earn the shutout, and Cale Braid potted a pair of goals for the victors. Sammy Nelson had a goal and an assist as the only other multiple-point scorer. Osseo-Maple Grove beat No. 37 Elk River, 7-0, and No. 40 Cottage Grove, 8-3, to earn a trip to the finals and improve to 51-8-1 on the year. They have outscored their opponents, 270-103. Grand Rapids fell in the North Region championship game, 5-2, to No. 2 Moorhead before rallying to earn the state-tournament berth with a 5-2 victory vs. No. 29 Duluth East in the second-place matchup. The Thunderhawks got goals from five different players in that game; Jaxon Rabbers, Ari Lamppa, Seth Carlson, Nathan Garski and Dylan Clayton all scored, with Garski, Lammpa, Carlson and Rabbers also dishing out single assists. Carter Casey stopped 21 shots to earn the win in net as Grand Rapids improved to 31-21-1 on the year. OMG has won both meetings between the two teams this season by 5-2 and 2-0 scores.

 

#6 Rogers vs. #22 Stillwater – 5:30 p.m. ET

Rogers captured the West Region championship, erupting for three second-period goals after a scoreless opening frame en route to a 4-0 victory against No. 9 Minnetonka. Tyson Miller, Cameron Lubke, Jayden Kurtz and Brock Cheslock each scored once for Rogers, with Kurtz and Cheslock also picking up single assists. Royals goalie Tyler Bacon recorded the shutout with 19 saves. Rogers earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory against No. 31 Eden Prairie to open tournament play, then beat #20 Wayzata, 3-0, to advance to the finals. The Royals are 40-9-5 and have outscored their opponents, 278-128. Stillwater finished second in the South Region after dropping the championship game, 6-0, to No. 3 Edina. The Ponies took a 2-1 lead after the opening period vs. No. 13 Rochester and scored the final two goals of the game to record the 4-1 decision and advance to the state playoffs. Callen Grilz led the Ponies' offensive attack with a goal and two assists, with Wyatt Wells, Luca Jarvis and Weston Grilz each scoring once and Jonas Kohn handing out a pair of assists. Gavin Bajda stopped 16 shots to earn the victory in net. Stillwater is 32-16-4 this year and has outscored its foes, 152-129. These teams have yet to meet this season.

 

#2 Moorhead vs. #10 White Bear Lake - 7:30 p.m. ET

Moorhead beat No. 21 Grand Rapids, 5-2, to capture the North Region championship and advance to the state tournament. The Spuds scored the first four goals of the title game and never looked back in going 4-0-0 for the weekend. Moorhead got goals from five different players: Evan Wanner, Syler Sullivan, Pavel Goryachev, Wyatt Cullen and Brandon Mickelson. Hudson Ferrie earned the win in goal with nine saves. Sullivan added an assist as the only Spud to record multiple points. The Spuds opened tournament play with a 10-0 victory against No. 75 Brainerd before recording a 4-1 semifinal win over No. 29 Duluth East. They are an impressive 49-6-0 and have surrendered just 93 goals – recording 10 shutouts – while scoring 320 times. White Bear Lake is 35-12-8 this season after knocking off No. 15 Chaska-Chanhassen, 3-0, in the East Region second-place game. The Bears fell to No. 4 Osseo-Maple Grove, 5-0, in the East championship game. WBL responded to that adversity, however, by posting a shutout and earning the region's second state bid with the shutout over CCHA. Wyatt Sander stopped 17 shots to earn the clean sheet, and Tanner Olsen potted a pair of goals while also assisting on Tyler Lalonde's tally. 

 

Minnesota Region Roundup

The road to the state championship in the State of Hockey began a few weeks back for youth hockey players in Minnesota as teams competed not only for district championships, but also for coveted spots in the region tournaments that are held to determine which teams get to play for state championships at all levels.

District champions and region seedings, for the most part, were decided last weekend, and the intensity ramped up on Friday as Region Tournament play got underway around the state. Regional tournaments were being held at the Peewee, Bantam and Junior Gold levels for boys and for 12U and 15U girls. Tournaments are held at the AA, A and B levels for boys and the A and B levels for girls. 

Below is a rundown of the Peewee and Bantam AA tournaments. Links to the brackets and results for every Minnesota Region Tournament can be found by CLICKING HERE.

Each age group is broken down into four regions: East, West, North and South. Teams from all over Minnesota are seeded in the various regions based on the results of their local District Tournament. Eight teams compete in each region in a double-elimination format, with two teams from each bracket advancing to the State Tournament.

Alexandria beat Grand Rapids, 3-1, and advances to play No. 10 Hermantown at 1 p.m. ET Saturday at Essentia Health Sports Center in Brainerd. The Thunderhawks take on No. 22 East Grand Forks at 9 a.m. ET Saturday. 

 

#10 Hermantown Hawks vs. #22 East Grand Forks

Hermantown blanked East Grand Forks, 2-0, and advances to play No. 45 Alexandria at 1 p.m. ET Saturday at Essentia Health Sports Center in Brainerd. East Grand Forks faces No. 43 Grand Rapids at 9 a.m. ET Saturday. 

 

#1 Moorhead Spuds vs. #55 Brainerd Warriors

Moorhead rolled to an 11-2 victory and will face Duluth East Saturday at 11 a.m. ET at Essentia Health Sports Center in Brainerd. Brainerd plays No. 23 Roseau at 3 p.m. ET. 

 

#23 Roseau Rams vs. #18 Duluth East Greyhounds

Duluth East handled Roseau, 8-4, setting up Saturday’s 11 a.m. ET showdown with top-ranked Moorhead at Essentia Health Sports Center in Brainerd. Roseau takes on No. 55 Brainerd at 3 p.m. ET.

 

PW AA North Championship Game - Sunday, March 5 at 10 a.m. ET

#1 Moorhead Spuds 10, #45 Alexandria Cardinals 0

In this championshp game, Moorhead steamrolled to a 10-0 victory, getting three goals from Cameron Coulter and two apiece from Easton Doxark and Joseph Cullen while Drew Kortan dished out four assists as the Spuds piled up 64 shots on goal. Aaron Lenarz got the win in goal. Cinderella-story Alexandria advanced to the finals by knocking off No. 43 Grand Rapids, 3-1, and No. 10 Hermantown, 2-1. Moorhead beat No. 55 Brainerd, 11-2, and No. 18 Duluth East, 6-3. Henry Buttweiler scored a pair of power-play goals to lift Alexandria against Hermantown, while Moorhead overcame a 3-1 deficit with four second-period goals against Duluth East. Owen Kraft netted a pair of goals for the Spuds. These teams met twice during the regular season, with Moorhead winning both games, 11-1 and 6-2. 

 

Second-Place Game - March 5

#10 Hermantown Hawks 7, #45 Alexandria Cardinals 1

Arlington's amazing tournament came to an abrupt halt Friday as Hermantown earned the region's second state-tournament berth with a 7-1 victory to finish the weekend 4-1-0. Kolby Hedley and Isaiah Sawyer tallied two goals apiece and Taylee Manion handed out four assists for the Hawks while Cartner Nash made 11 saves to earn the win in net.

Edina took this won by a 7-0 tally to set up Saturday's date with No. 2 Woodbury at 1 p.m. ET at M Health Fairview Sports Center. STMA faces off against No. 37 Centennial at 9 a.m. ET. 

 

#9 Osseo-Maple Grove vs. #30 Lakeville South

OMG earned a 5-1 victory against Lakeville South and faces off against No. 20 Blaine at 11 a.m. ET at M Health Fairview Sports Center in Woodbury. Lakeville South takes the ice against No. 7 White Bear Lake at 3 p.m. ET. 

 

#20 Blaine Bengals vs. #7 White Bear Lake Bears

Blaine pulled off the upset with a 5-3 victory against the Bears and will face No. 9 Osseo-Maple Grove at 11 a.m. ET at M Health Fairview Sports Center in Woodbury.  The Bears play No. 30 Lakeville South at 3 p.m. ET.

Mark Stienessen stopped all 24 shots he faced to lead OMG to the East Region title with a 3-0 victory. Kobe Roeder scored a pair of goals for the victors, with Braeden Euell adding the other tally. Woodbury had cruised to the finals with an 11-1 victory against the No. 37 Centennial Cougars and a 7-0 shutout against the No. 6 Edina Hornets. Osseo-Maple Grove beat No. 30 Lakeville South and No. 20 Blaine by identical 5-1 scores. Woodbury got two goals apiece from Henry Meier, Carson Persby and Gavin Godbout in its semifinal win, while OMG got a pair of tallies from Aiden Carrithers to go along with single goals from Zachary Martin, Finn Starkey and Owen Verness. Woodbury has won all three games against Edina this season by scores of 5-2, 4-3 in overtime and 5-2. 

 

Second-Place Game - March 5

#2 Woodbury Predators 7, #6 Edina Hornets 6

It was a battle of two top-10 Minnesota teams, with the Predators coming out on top thanks to Chase Crowley's overtime power-play goal with 6:16 left in the extra period. Beckett Shillings and Henry Meier assisted on the game-winner to break the hearts of a tough Edina team that came from behind and scored two goals in the third period to force overtime. Will Mikan sent the game to extra time on a goal that was assisted by George Mark with 1:27 left in the third period. Crowley finished with two goals to lead the Woodbury attack, while Mikan recorded a hat trick and dished out an assist in a heroic effort for the Hornets. Lucas Anderson made 31 saves to earn the win in net.

#5 Chaska-Chanhassen Stormhawks 8, #19 Rosemount Irish 3

Chaska-Chanhassen completed its unbeaten run to the South title with an 8-3 victory over Rosemount. Jonny Bloedow continued his amazing tournament with five more goals and an assist, with Baron Bogucki adding a goal and two assists and Mason Schemenauer handing out three assists. The Stormhawks earned their trip to the title game by beating No. 48 Owatonna, 4-3, and No. 44 St. Cloud, 6-4. The Irish knocked off No. 29 Wayzata, 6-3, and No. 17 Rogers, 2-0. In the win over St. Cloud, CCHA got a four-goal performance from Jonny Bloedow and single goals from Mason Schemanauer and Jack Gardepy. Rosemount got single tallies from Noah Ubl and Bauer Sullivan in its win over Rogers. These two teams met once previously, with Chaska-Chanhassen recording an 8-3 victory Dec. 18. 

 

Second-Place Game - March 5

#17 Rogers Royals 7, #19 Rosemount Irish 4

Rogers rebounded from its earlier loss to capture the second South Region berth with a 7-4 victory over the Irish. Six different players scored for the Royals, led by Jake Burmis' two goals. Braeden Branton and Connor Hood each added a goal and an assist, while Gavin Wanka made 28 saves to earn the win in goal.

#3 Minnetonka Skippers 4, #14 Eden Prairie Eagles 2

Minnetonka faced off against the hosts from Eden Prairie for the Peewee AA West Region championship Sunday. The Skippers streaked to a 2-0 first-period lead, and extended the margin to 4-1 before William Jesse Tucker scored for the Eagles with 32 seconds left. Dean Stevens, Bo Skelton, Colton Crook and Eliott Schultz scored for Minnetonka, and Hudson Tucker made 19 saves. The Skippers earned their trip to the title game by beating No. 35 Spring Lake Park, 8-0, and No. 4 Mahtomedi, 6-1. The Eagles knocked off No. 16 Rochester, 6-1, and No 15 Andover, 7-4. In the win against Mahtomedi, Minnetonka was led by Bo Skelton's hat trick, with Dean Stevens, Colton Crook and Cash Hardie each contributing one goal. Three Eden Prairie players - Owen Konrad, Thomas Miller and R.J. Thompson - scored twice in the Eagles' semifinal win. The Skippers won three of the four meetings between these two teams during the regular season, earning 9-3, 7-0 and 5-2 victories. Eden Prairie earned a 7-3 win Jan. 21.

#15 Andover Huskies 6, #14 Eden Prairie Eagles 3

Andover rebounded from an earlier loss to finish the weekend 4-2-0 and earn the region's second state-tournament bid. Six different players scored for the Huskies: Chase Hendrickson, Dylan Knox, Chase Berlin, Collin Zilmer, Greyson Bruneau and Mason Copple. Zilmer also dished out a pair of helpers, and Brett Romaker made 21 saves to backstop the win.

Bantam AA North Championship Game - Sunday, March 5 at 10 a.m. ET

The Spuds scored the game's first four goals and never looked back in going 4-0-0 and capturing the Bantam AA north championship. Moorhead got goals from five different players: Evan Wanner, Syler Sullivan, Pavel Goryachev, Wyatt Cullen and Brandon Mickelson. Hudson Ferrie earned the win in goal with nine saves. Sullivan added an assist as the only Spud to record multiple points. Moorhead opened tournament play with a 10-0 victory against No. 75 Brainerd before recording a 4-1 semifinal win over No. 29 Duluth East. The Thunderhawks beat No. 34 Alexandria, 3-2, and No. 50 Bemidji, 3-0, to earn their trip to the championship game. Seth Carlson netted a pair of goals, with Nathan Garski contributing a single tally, for Grand Rapids in the semifinal win. Moorhead's offensive attack was paced by Zac Zimmerman, who recorded a hat trick. Brandon Mickelson netted the Spuds' other goal. These two teams met previously on Dec. 30, with Moorhead recording a 3-0 victory.

#21 Grand Rapids Thunderhawks 5, #29 Duluth East 2

Grand Rapids rebounded from its championship-game loss to earn the second North Region bid to the state tournament, getting goals from five different players. Jaxon Rabbers, Ari Lamppa, Seth Carlson, Nathan Garski and Dylan Clayton all scored, with Garski, Lammpa, Carlson and Rabbers also dishing out single assists. Carter Casey stopped 21 shots to earn the win in net.

Two of the state's top-10 14U teams faced off Sunday for the Bantam AA East Region championship, but OMG skated away with a decisive victory and the East Region crown. Ryder Skanson stopped all 18 shots he faced to earn the shutout, and Cale Braid potted a pair of goals for the victors. Sammy Nelson had a goal and an assist as the only other multiple-point scorer. Osseo-Maple Grove beat No. 37 Elk River, 7-0, and No. 40 Cottage Grove, 8-3, to earn a trip to the finals. White Bear Lake knocked off No. 48 West St. Paul, 6-3, and No. 17 Andover, 3-1. These teams met once previously on Dec. 3, with OMG notching a 4-2 win. In OMG's semifinal victory, Sammy Nelson notched a hat trick, and Wyatt Kuznik contributed a pair of tallies. Maverick Timmons, Ryland Demars and Camden Autrey each scored once for WBL in its victory against Andover.

#3 Edina Hornets 6, #22 Stillwater Ponies 0

After a scoreless first period, the Hornets blitzed the Ponies with six goals over the final two frames to capture the South Region championship in resounding fashion. Caleb Pittsley and Bode McConnell each netted two goals, with Pittsley also dishing out an assist. Freddie Schneider and Casey Vandertop each contributed a goal and an assist, while Sam Peckam handed out two helpers and Chase Bjorgard stopped all 22 shots fired his way. Edina raced past No. 54 Champlin Park, 7-0, to open the tournament before beating No. 19 Rosemount, 6-0, in the semifinals. Stillwater beat No. 47 Lakeville North, 4-2, in its opener and No. 13 Rochester, 3-0, in the semis. Amir Chebaclo and Bode Finn both scored twice in the Hornets' win over Rosemont, while Luca Jarvis netted a pair of goals for the Ponies in the semifinals. These teams met on Jan. 21, with Edina skating to a 5-0 win.

Another team bounced back from earlier disappointment to earn a state-tournament berth as Stillwater took a 2-1 lead after the opening period and scored the final two goals of the game to record the 4-1 decision. Callen Grilz led the Ponies' offensive attack with a goal and two assists, with Wyatt Wells, Luca Jarvis and Weston Grilz each scoring once and Jonas Kohn handing out a pair of assists. Gavin Bajda stopped 16 shots to earn the victory in net.

The Royals erupted for three second-period goals after a scoreless opening frame en route to a 4-0 victory and the West Region title. Tyson Miller, Cameron Lubke, Jayden Kurtz and Brock Cheslock each scored once for Rogers, with Kurtz and Cheslock also picking up single assists. Royals goalie Tyler Bacon picked up the shutout with 19 saves. Rogers earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory against No. 31 Eden Prairie to open tournament play, then beat #20 Wayzata, 3-0, to advance to Sunday's title clash. Minnetonka beat No. 33 Lakeville South, 8-1, and No. 56 Blaine, 3-0. Jayden Kurtz buried two of the Royal's three goals in their semifinal win, while the Skippers got goals from three different players - Gabriel Lindholm, Maxson Thompson and Daniel Browning - in their win against Blaine. These teams met once this season, all the way back on Oct. 22, with Minnetonka earning an 8-7 victory. 

 

Second-Place Game - March 5

#9 Minnetonka Skippers 4, #20 Wayzata 3

After a disappointing loss in the championship game, the Skippers found themselves down 2-1 after the first period of this second-place matchup against Wayzata. Then they trailed, 3-2, after Colin Winfield scored for the Trojans with 1:23 left in the second frame, but somehow Minnetonka had enough in the tank to tie the game with 8:11 left in regulation on Cooper Rannow's goal and then to win it in overtime on Liam Schultz's unassisted tally with 8:40 showing on the clock. Rannow had a pair of goals for the Skippers, while Connor Jewett had the team's other tally, Tyler Loch earned the win in goal.
