August Games Removed from Calculations
Just as we did during the 2010-11 season, MYHockey has removed all August games from the rankings calculation process effective the first ranking completed in November. For a few teams, this could make a difference in their rankings. For a larger number of teams, this might create confusion on how AGD is calculated when August games are involved. Please note that MYHockey has a "math page" that shows you which games are included in the rankings calculation process and which are not. Furthermore, this page can show you the math behind the calculation of the rankings. You can access this math page by clicking on the square icon just to the right of the rating number as found on the team information or details/scores page for each team.
Why has MYHockey done this? USA Hockey and Hockey Canada set the start of the fall/winter season as September 1, 2011. While August games assist in getting the rankings early in the season, they are not always a good indication of a team's ability because they are not always approached the same way as fall/winter games. As a compromise to all interests, MYHockey leaves these games in the system, but has chosen to make them "non-counting" from a rankings calculation process.
This is the second year of this policy. Like all policies, it is not perfect and definitely not perfect for all teams. However, consistent policies are required to run a system with 12,000 teams. Thank you for your support and understanding.
