Minnesota Crowns Peewee & Bantam AA State Champions

After a two-week break following regional tournaments, Minnesota Peewee and Bantam AA Boys teams got back on the ice Friday in hopes capturing a state championship. The Peewee tournament was held at Cullen Hockey Center in Moorhead, while the Bantams played at New Ulm Civic Center.
Peewee action began at 1 p.m. EDT March 14 with Minn-Kota No. 2 Osseo-Maple Grove taking on the eighth-ranked East Duluth Greyhounds.
On the Bantam side, the puck dropped at 11 a.m. EDT, with the No. 10 Rosemount Irish facing off against the No. 23 Farmington Tigers.
Both tournaments featured a double-elimination format, with all eight teams playing once each Friday and Saturday. First-round winners played in Saturday’s semifinals, while the losers dropped into a consolation bracket. Championship-bracket semifinal losers played Sunday for third place, while the consolation-bracket semifinal losers were eliminated. Consolation and state championship games also were played Sunday.

Minnesota Peewee AA Semifinals - March 15
Minnetonka 8, East Grand Forks 3
Donovan Klin scored four goals and dished out an assist, with Carter Crowley and Colton Nash each handing out three helpers, Jordan Corona scoring twice and Hayden Rose added a goal and an assist as the Skippers rolled. Graham Olson earned the win in goal with 16 saves.
Osseo-Maple Grove 2, Woodbury 1
OMGHA and the Predators saved all the scoring for the final period in this semifinal. Wesley Grossman and Brayden Dean scored 9:23 apart in the final frame, with Dean's tally in the last four minutes proving to be the game-winner, and Noah Slutier finished with 27 saves. Slutier and the OMGHA defense held off Woodbury in the final 2;58 after Maverick Schiltgen scored to cut the margin to 2-1.
Minnesota Peewee AA Champioship Game - March 16
Minnetonka 4, Osseo-Maple Grove 3 (OT)
Colton Nash scored his third goal of the game and fifth of the state tournament with 4:04 left in overtime to give the Skippers the Minnesota Peewee AAA championship. Nash scored twice in the second period as Minnetonka rallied from a 1-0 deficit with three straight goals in the middle frame. But Wesley Grossman netted his second of the day with 7:06 left in the third period and Brayden Dean buried his fourth of the weekend with 1;53 left to force overtime and set up Nash's heroics. Caleb Schultz had the other Minnetonka goal, and Graham Olson made 15 saves to earn the win in goal.
Peewee AA Third Place Game
Woodbury 5, East Grand Forks 4 (OT)
Like the championship game, the third-place contest required extra time, with Jack Keiser scoring his third goal of the day to claim third place for Woodbury with 3:56 rameining in the extra session. Keiser scored twice in the opening frame after Marshall Leach and Jace Magner staked East Grand Forks to a 2-0 lead. Magner talled again to give his team a 3-2 lead with 6:37 left in the middle period before CJ Dornfeld and Colton Chatleain countered with goals in the final 2:38 of the stanza. Brad Lind tied it for East Grand Forks with 12:05 left in regulation before Keiser ended it in OT. Alex Pierce made 22 saves to earn the win in goal.

Minnesota Bantam AA Semifinals - March 15
Moorhead 5, Eden Prairie 2
The fired-up Spuds sprinted out of the gate with four straight goals in the first two periods and cruised into the championship game. Eden Prairie showed signs of life in the final frame, getting goals from Owen Konrad and Gage Elliott, but Brooks Suter iced the game for Moorhead by scoring in between those two tallies. Suter and Joseph Cullen each finished with a goal and an assist, while William Kullen and Gage Kallhoff eached dished out a pair of helpers and Cameron Coulter scored twice for the winners. Maddox Gregoire earned the win in goal with 18 saves.
Rosemount 3, Rogers 1
Bauer Sullivan scored all three goals for the Irish, and Drew Sherman stopped 23 Rogers shots as Rosemount advanced to the championship game. Two of Sullivan's three goals were unassisted, with Cooper Stramel and Jack Lonke assisting on his second tally. Zachary Meyers had the lone goal for the Royals.
Minnesota Bantam AA Champioship Game - March 16
Moorhead 6, Rosemount 1
Moorhead scored three times in the first two periods, with Joseph Cullen striking twice, and never looked back. Gunnar Schock Owen Wright, John Gramer and Henry Buttweiler also scored for the winners, with Cullen and Buttweiler each adding single assists. Bauer Sullivan scored the only Rosemount goal. Moorhead netminder Will Arnold stopped 20 shots to record the win.
Bantam AA Third Place Game
Rogers 2, Eden Prairie 1
Rogers got a first-period goal from Jake Burmis and a second-period marker from Connor Hood as the Royals overcame an early 1-0 deficit. Owen Konrad opened the scoring for Eden Prairie with 8:27 left in the opening, frame, but the two Rogers goals would be the only scoring for the rest of the contest. Gavin Wanka made 25 saves to earn the win in goal.
