The MHR Weekend Wrap for Nov. 21-25; A Recap of the NE Pack & T1EHL Showcases
From Nov. 21-25, for the second week in a row, one of the top youth hockey leagues in the North America held an in-season showcase that featured some of the elite Boys Tier 1 programs the United States. While the previous weekend’s Prep Hockey Conference event in Boston was limited to 18U Boys teams, from Nov. 21-24 the Northeast Pack welcomed a litany of top 20 teams in the Boys 14U, 15O, 16U and 18U categories to its showcase weekend in Pittsburgh.
The NE Pack weekend included USA No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchups at the 15O and 16U age levels, a 15O tilt featuring No. 2 vs. No. 3 and an 18U showdown between No. 5 and No. 7.
Meanwhile, in Dallas another of the top Tier 1 leagues in the U.S., the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League, held one of its showcase weekends for 15O and 16U Boys teams.
Made up of six nationally recognized youth hockey organizations from the northeast, the Northeast Pack was founded in 2019. Each year, the Northeast Pack holds six showcase events in the Northeast, concluding with the league playoffs in February at the Utica University Nexus Center in Utica, NY. The league also invites guest organizations to participate in its events. For the Nov. 21-24 event the league welcomed 14U, 15O and 16U teams from Shattuck-St. Mary’s along with 16U and 18U teams from Northstar Christian Academy to the Pittsburgh Showcase.
In the Week 9 MHR USA Boys Tier 1 rankings, Shattuck-St. Mary’s had the nation’s top-ranked 15O and 16U Boys teams, while its 14U team was No. 2. Northstar’s 18U team was ranked sixth in the 18U Overall Tier 1 Boys rankings and second in the USA Independent Prep rankings.
The Tier 1 Elite Hockey League’s Dallas Showcase Nov. 22-24 included three top 12 USA Boys 16U teams among its 20-team field across the two age groups. All told, the 16U Division included six teams ranked among the nation’s top 41 in the MHR Week 9 rankings. The 15O Division featured four top 30 teams and eight of the nation’s top 53.
The Tier 1 Elite Hockey League is one of the United States’ premier youth AAA hockey showcase-style leagues, with more than 20 member organizations from both coasts and many states In between. Like the Northeast Pack, the T1EHL has a strong record of advancing players to the highest levels of North American junior hockey and to NCAA college programs. League showcase weekends regularly are attended by scouts from the USHL, NAHL, OHL and NCAA institutions.
Northeast Pack Pittsburgh Showcase
The first games of the NE Pack Weekend were held Thursday, Nov. 21, with play continuing through Sunday, Nov. 24. The majority of the weekend’s games were played at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Center in Cranberry Township, Pa. Other venues include Baierl Ice Complex in Warrendale as well as McKnight Arena and Hunt Armory in Pittsburgh. Most games should still be available for viewing on LiveBarn.

The 14U Division of the Northeast Pack Pittsburgh Showcase included three top 10 teams, with all seven teams ranked among the top 27, according to MHR’s Week 9 USA Boys Tier 1 rankings.

Mount St. Charles rolled to a 7-3 victory over the top-ranked Sabres as part of a perfect weekend that included victories against 22nd-ranked Pens Elite and the No. 16 Long Island Gulls. MSC outscored its opponents by an impressive 16-4 margin as the only unbeaten 14U team. Shattuck-St. Mary’s dropped two if its three games, also falling in overtime, 5-4, to the No. 7 Bishop Kearney Selects.

#1 Shattuck-St. Mary’s (1), #2 Mount St. Charles (2) - OT
Shattuck fit an extra game into its weekend schedule, also taking on the No. 18 Pittsburgh Predators, Nov. 23. The Sabres won that game, 4-3, in overtime a day before falling to second-ranked Mount St. Charles in another OT thriller. Shattuck went 2-1-0 in Northeast Pack games, while Mount St. Charles was a perfect, 3-0-0, with other wins against the No. 16 Bishop Kearney Selects and No. 8 Mid-Fairfield Rangers.

Shattuck won this clash of the nation’s top two teams en route to a perfect 3-0-0 weekend. The Rockets won their other two contests to finish the weekend at 2-1-0. New Jersey recorded wins over No. 9 Mount St. Charles and No. 5 Pens Elite, while the Sabres beat No. 10 Bishop Kearney and Pens Elite.

The Rockets pulled off the minor upset in this top 10 matchup, skating to a 3-2 overtime victory as part of 2-1-0 weekend. New Jersey also beat No. 24 Pens Elite and fell to No. 18 Mount St. Charles. BK also went 2-1-0, bouncing back from this loss to knock off Northstar Christian (No. 6 overall) and No. 18 Mount St. Charles.

Tier 1 Elite Hockey League 15O/16U Dallas Showcase
Ten member teams from each age group were in Dallas for the T1EHL Showcase, with 16U play running from Nov. 22-24 and 15O games being held Saturday, Nov. 23 through Monday, Nov. 25. The 15O Division boasted seven teams ranked among the USA’s top 46 in the MHR Week 9 15O Boys Tier 1 rankings. Nine of the 10 teams were among the top 65, with four placing in the top 30. There were three top 12 teams competing in the 16U Division and six teams were ranked among the top 41.

North Jersey’s Christian Jaworski scored with 2:17 left to tie the game and force overtime after Luke Storr had staked the Jr. Ducks to a 1-0 lead midway through the second period. After a scoreless extra period, Jacob Gordon and Hunter Kapen scored in the shootout to left Anaheim to the victory. Patrik Ula scored for the Avs, but Evan Enck thwarted the other two North Jersey attempts to record the win in goal. He finished with 35 saves, while his counterpart James Robinson stopped 39 shots for the Avalanche.

Dallas scored the game’s first five goals – with five different players tallying – before Krewz Harper broke Adam Eskit’s shutout on the power play with 4:50 remaining in the third period. Eskit was outstanding in goal, finishing with 40 saves despite narrowly missing the clean sheet. Aidan Hesse made 26 saves for Sioux Falls. Keaton Martin, Dennis Emesibe, Broden McArthur, Gavin Wilie and Landon Amrhein scored for the Stars. Emesibe and Wilkie also recorded assists for the winners.
