The End of Another Great Season
I'm not going to reminisce a lot, but I will indulge a little. Congrats to the end-of-season National and Provincial Champs. The Mid-Fairfield Blues 92 AAA, the California Stars Bantam AA, the Compuware 94 AAA and the Affton Americans 94 AA teams won USA Hockey National Championships in Buffalo. Mid-Fairfield did it from the bottom half of the rankings of teams who qualified for Nationals. Compuware did it from the front. California was near the top and Affton was near the middle. I point this out because it goes to show you that it's not always the favorite although favorites do win. It's really about how well you are playing at the end of the season. In Ontario, congrats to the Toronto Jr Canadians 92 AAA and York Simcoe Express 94 AAA teams for All Ontario Championships. The Jr Canadians dominated the season at 92 AAA. York Simcoe grew with the season and posted impressive wins over the Marlies and Ottawa Valley Titans in the semis and finals respectively.
I learned a lot this season, both on and off the ice. I learned the value of life and how we cannot take it for granted. I learned to deal with highs and lows, just like the rest of life. I learned that one should never stop seeking greater truths, no matter how much you think you already know. I was reminded that hockey is just a game. For most of us, our kids are "going nowhere" in hockey. What's really important is that we are teaching our kids the right life lessons.
At the same time I grew as a person, MYHockey grew as the website for youth hockey information. It hasn't always been easy. Serious problems last fall forced me to rewrite much of the site while at Disney (not recommended). Another problem in the past few weeks caused MYHockey to lose almost 10 days worth of data. Some things must be changed, and those changes are already in the works. MYHockey will continue to grow and improve as we begin to anticipate yet another season. Keep an eye on the site as changes and improvements are revealed throughout the course of the off season. Feel free to express your own feelings concerning MYHockey, they are always welcome.
Most enhancements will be outlined right here, in Notes From A Hockey Nerd. I'll keep the column going through the off-season to keep you abreast of changes. Enjoy the summer!
