World Junior Championships Under Way

Both Canada and the USA won their opening round games at the World Junior Championships in Malmo Sweden on Thursday, December 26, 2013. Team USA beat the Czech Repbulic 5-1 while Canada defeated Germany 7-2. In the United States, games can be seen on the NHL Network. TSN is covering the action in Canada. Here are the remaining schedules for Team USA and Canada:
  • USA vs Slovakia (Dec 28th, 7:30am EST)
  • Canada vs Czech Republic (Dec 28th, 11:30am EST)
  • USA vs Germany (Dec 29th, 9:00am EST)
  • Canada vs Slovakia (Dec 30th, 11:30am EST)
  • USA vs Canada (Dec 31st, 11:30am EST)
  • Quarterfinals (Jan 2nd)
  • Semifinals (Jan 4th)
  • Finals (Jan 5th)
So the big game in the round robin will be Team USA versus Canada on New Years Eve at 11:30am EST. Both teams are, however, expected to make it into the quarterfinals and could meet a second time as early as the Semifinals.

If you want to see many of the best under 20 players in the world, there is no better way to see them than at the World Junior Championships. Future stars such as Conner McDavid (1997, Canada) and Jack Eichel (1996, USA) will get to prove themselves against older, established junior stallwarts and NHL draftees like Jonathan Drouin and Riley Barber.
