2026 USA Hockey Nationals Hub: 23 National Champs Crowned on Championship Sunday

Updated April 1 at 10:00 a.m. EDT

USA Hockey Nationals Week has come and gone, bringing to and end the 2025-26 youth hockey season in the United States. And what an incredible week of hockey it was!

With USA Hockey Tier I and II National Championships pushed forward in the calendar a week this year to avoid conflicting with the Easter holiday, on March 24 more than 300 Youth and Girls hockey teams from all over the United States began competing at various locations for national titles.

There were 124 teams competing for Tier I championships, with 208 participating in Tier II tournaments. Tier I play got underway March 24, while Tier II championships began the following day.

On the Youth side, the Tier I championships were divided into 13O, 14U, 15O, 16U and 18U age brackets, while Girls Tier I champs were crowned in 14U, 16U and 19U divisions. The Youth Tier II championships featured 14U, 16U and 18U tournaments, while Tier II Girls teams competed for 14U, 16U and 19U championships.

There were 200 Youth and 132 Girls teams hoping to skate their way to national championships.

USA Hockey divides the United States into 12 Districts: Atlantic, Central, Mid-Am, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New England, New York, Northern Plains, Pacific, Rocky Mountain, and Southeastern. At the Tier I level, district tournaments are held in most regions, with the champions automatically qualifying for Nationals.

The remainder of the tournament fields, which are comprised of between a total of 12 and 16 teams, are filled with highly ranked “at-large” teams. In addition, states with the highest USA Hockey enrollments – New York, Massachusetts, Michigan and Minnesota – get to send their state champions to compete for Tier I national titles.

Tier II National Championship Youth tournaments include state champions from various parts of the country, while for the Girls a combination of state and district champs compete. Each Tier 2 Youth age group is further divided into three separate tournaments (labeled 1A, 2A and 3A) based on various criteria, and Girls divisions are divided into two divisions (1A and 2A). In all, more than 20 national champions will be crowned by USA Hockey.

Meanwhile, USA Hockey High School National Championships got underway March18 and concluded March 22 in Plymouth, Minn. High School Nationals are divided into 1A, 2A and 3A divisions for Boys/Co-ed teams, with Girls teams competing in 1A and 2A divisions. A total of 60 teams compete for High School national championships.
