MHR Play of the Year: Week 1 Matchups in the Books!

Updated Monday, June 15

MYHockey Rankings once again is asking the North American Hockey community to help us select our top play for the 2025-26 season. The fourth annual MHR Play of the Year Contest got underway Tuesday, June 9.

As in the past, this year’s contest includes every play that earned MHR Play of the Week honors throughout the season. Those weekly honorees have been placed into a 32-play bracket along with 10 “wildcards” that were edged out during Play of the Week voting or that were submitted or uncovered since we stopped selecting weekly winners in April.

An Instagram vote will be held to determine which play wins each matchup and advances to the next round, with first-round voting beginning June 9 and running through July 3. Round of 16 matchups will be decided July 7-24, and Great 8 voting will take place July 28-31. Semifinal winners will be determined Aug. 4 and 6, with the finalists scheduled to face off Aug. 12.

The complete 2025-26 MHR Play of the Year bracket can be viewed at the top of this article. Past results and the upcoming schedule can be found below.

Each matchup is promoted via all MYHockey Rankings social media accounts, but actual voting ONLY will take place on the MHR Instagram Story. Once a matchup is posted on the MHR IG story, voting will be open for exactly 24 hours. The play that gets the most votes in that 24-hour period will advance to the next round.

As in past years, the contest is designed to help us all pass the time during the dog days of summer while looking back on some of the more memorable plays from the season behind us. A winner will be determined just a few days before the official start of the season as game results can begin counting toward a team’s 2026-27 ranking in the United States Aug. 15.
