Neither league has officially posted details, but both leagues are supposed to include a 16U division(s). The Tier 1 Elite 16U division has recently distributed a schedule indicating they will carry 20 teams at 16U, excluding the Columbus Bluejackets, Buffalo Regals, Boston Advantage, Philadelphia Jr Flyers and Team Comcast. The NAPHL has not finalized their 16U division but I suspect they will field about 16 teams. Some programs are still trying to finalize their 16U plans.

In Michigan you will find the "big 5" AAA teams that are in the MWEHL (which many believe is THE best league out there). There are a couple of other AAA start ups that are non-competitive and aren't in the MWEHL. However, at the Tier II level, there are now 3 levels: Yzerman, Howe and Lindstrom (don't ask me why they couldn't say something like 'Gold, Silver Bronze).

At any rate, the Yzerman level (top 12 teams)teams can compete quite well against "non MWEHL" AAA teams. The only difference is that they primarily play each other with the exception of AAA tournaments in Canada where they win a good portion of games.

The "Yzerman/Howe/Lindstrom" set up is only two years old but I think you will start to see that in Michigan the Yzerman teams are "like AAA" but just a little below the MWEHL teams. Hope that helps anyone who may be trying to set up games.

JUST WANT TO SAY THANKS THAT IS THE BEST CLARIFICATION TO THE AAA/AA TIER 1 TIER 2 ARGUMENT I HAVE HERD YET. I ALWAYS HEAR PEOPLE HERE IN WESTERN NEW YORK BICKERING IN THE STANDS AS TO THE DIFFERENT CLASSES AS TIER 1 BEING JUST 95 OR TIER 2 BEING 94/95. I WILL BE PRINTING YOUR WRITE UP TO SETTLE THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL {PROBALLY NOT REALLY ONCE AND FOR ALL BUT AT LEAST GIVING ME AMMO } THANKS MIKE CATH THE BUZZ GO BUFFALO HORNETS {95'S }

if it could be done i think you could pull it off. That being taking the best HS. Preps and putting them on the ice. AVON OLD FARMS, ST. Paul's, Culver, Sylvania Northview, St. Ed's, S.St. Mary's, BC high, etc... in one tournament at the end of each of regions, State championships-NE preps etc.
It would be worth watching.
Great site!

I would like to add to your story by saying that my son who plays at the '98 level has had great experiences getting to practice and play games with kids from other teams and cities. It has only been a few years participating in these leagues and camps but already he has developed relationships with kids from all over the Twin Cities area. This type of relationship building will continue over the years and into adulthood. Not only does it enhance the overall hockey experience but it teaches life lessons on how to socialize, network and get along with people in general. These skills and experiences will benefit a child long after their hockey playing days are over.

Great Site Thanks for all the hard work you do. IT is a real treat to look up and see where your kids team sits among all the good teams in the same age group,it is a great measuring stick to see where you are. Keep up the research and i look forward to monitoring our teams progress in the fall.A Florida Everblades AAA parent Thx Steven Kohn

Context is key. Point well taken. Used inappropriately, MYHockey information can be used to serve an "evil" purpose, but the same can be said for almost all meaningful content on the web.
